Engaging Girls & Women in STEM

Join Dr. Makini Beck, PI for the NSF funded Women in STEM Education Network (WiSEN), Julie Newman, engineer, author and STEM advocate, and Dr. Lisa Hinkelman from ROX who will share about their work to engage and support women and girls in STEM.
This 80 minute facilitated discussion session will explore current research findings, programs and approaches to support women and girls at all stages of their STEM education and career journeys.

Faculty members from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) will share their experiences in utilizing federal, state, and private funding to tackle national barriers to STEM education and workforce development. The faculty will present information on their currently funded projects that address key areas such as culturally responsive teaching and learning spaces, linguistic diversity, mathematics education and teacher preparation, expanding the doctoral STEM pipeline, and STEM workforce development. A facilitated discussion will follow so attendees can delve deeper into the topics, ask questions, and share their own experiences and insights.
